Boundary =/= Control

I have said it many times before, I truly believe everyone should go to therapy, but in the past few years with the undeniable influx in people wanting to cope with the anxiety and depression this pandemic has produced or exacerbated, the amount of clinical jargon being thrown around has reached a critical mass. People are starting to weaponize therapy as a means of control or explaining away shitty behavior. Of course, I’m referring to the recently leaked texts of one Jonah Hill, a celebrity who once played a teenager obsessed with drawing elaborate, beautiful pics of male genitalia. I’m sorry, I literally cannot see him without replaying that scene from Super Bad. I digress…

I won’t add all the texts here, but here’s a link where you can read them. It’s appalling how he used therapy buzzwords to justify controlling his then gf and the situation. However, what really FLOORED me was the repulsive response in the aftermath of those texts being shared.

Da Worst Apology

I usually don’t have much to say about celebrities, because there are so many other more important, pressing issues we’re facing than a statement from a blue checkmark account announcing their departure from a social media platform or the illustrious entanglements famous people find themselves in. Now, don’t get me wrong, I consume pop culture like a hungry hungry hippo, but it’s not something I feel compelled to write about too often. However, this unhinged tirade from DaBaby that took place during one of the many insanely populated music festivals (we’re still in a pandemic, eep!), Rolling Loud, has me in a state of anger and exasperation.

Ice Bucket Madness

Anyone else find it baffling that the most ridiculous things go viral, yet simple requests for donations for life-saving research get ignored most of the time. I’m glad the ice bucket challenge is raising awareness but it seems just like a rich people running gag or this playful way of vying for attention. Whatever. I’m not mad at it. By any means necessary, right? It’s success is undeniable and I’m glad so much money is being raised to study this debilitating disease. There’s just something that’s a bit odd about it and I can’t quite put my finger on it.
