I wrote an entire blog post and got out all of the angry feelings I have about Musk, Trump, the administration and even was able to squeeze in some hope at the end but it all got deleted. I know right?!! I thought I was swapping out an image but instead I discarded the entire thing. I’m in shock right now. Not the kind of shock I wrote about in the previous, now never-to-be-seen-by-a-soul post, though. That shock after the inauguration was pure. Debilitating. The type of shock that takes time to shake. This kind of shock numbed me for a bit and taught me to always save and never click the red button unless you’re absolutely sure what it does. A rookie mistake TBH.
I’m going to chalk up this little disaster to the universe telling me I have more to say. I am not just the post I spent about an hour on. I can write another one, and by golly I will, because now I’m pissed and determined.
I started off my infamously deleted post, This Ordinary Citizen is crashing outttt, but little did I know that I would soon be crashing out over deleting an entire post like a gd n00b. Okay, okay I’m done.
Anyway, I’m back writing again after all this time because the initial frustration and fury of the election results and subsequent swearing in of the most callous, undeserving human being has finally subsided. The immediate refusal to get involved in any way, shape, or form has waned. I’m baaack!
One of a few things I want to talk about today is Elon Musk or as he hates to be called, Space Karen. In my previous post I mentioned a bunch of things Trump has done in his first few months in office, which legit feels like years at this point. It was a cathartic exercise to purge it all. The incessant flurry of poorly thought out executive orders, abhorrent mistreatment of allies and admired international leaders, blatantly relishing fascist ones, uncountable abuses of power, removing protections of vulnerable people, attacking, overwhelming, illegally detaining. The list is endless, but this isn’t what has my fingers tingling and my eye twitching. At this point it’s obvious Trump’s loyalty is not with the majority of American people. This brings me to one of the most unprecedented, highly suspicious, undeniably illegal plans…
I’m still reeling about, you guessed it— DOGE. The Department of Government Efficiency. An insulting title within and of itself. A meme-ification of an entity that has the ability to wreck the lives of billions. The stupid acronym choice a proclamation of the group of unserious, unqualified underlings that have infiltrated the government by means of a South African billionaire who undoubtedly has some salacious intel on the president or else he simply wouldn’t be in that position. The whole thing is like a Marvel plot.
This self-proclaimed department of efficiency is operating under no oversight, no understanding of how the government actually works, and is being led by someone who can literally pay everyone in the US a dollar and still be a billionaire. This guy who has already nonchalantly told the press that he will make mistakes as if the mistakes he makes aren’t going to upset the lives of hundreds of thousands is in charge of spending less on government programs that subsidize people’s livelihoods (BEING ABLE TO EAT, SNAP), provide affordable healthcare for millions (OBAMACARE), help other countries with supplying lifesaving treatments and medicines (AIDS AND OTHER DISEASE TREATMENTS AND RESEARCH), and ensures when you retire, you’ll be taken care of (SOCIAL SECURITY). It is mind boggling to me that someone who literally never has to think about money, whose family doesn’t have to think about money for generations is dictating what needs to be cut and calling these programs “entitlements.” The red I saw when I heard those words fall so ineloquently out of his stupid mouth. I am still angry. All the while he is being paid by said government he is claiming to “make more efficient” (his companies have a number of contracts with the US). How tf this was able to happen is beyond infuriating. OMFG and I didn’t even mention him nazi saluting not once, but twice after his speech at the inauguration. Little did I know it would be the first of many uncomfortable televised appearances. That’s when I knew the media wasn’t going to be helpful, because of the way this “goofy gesture” was explained away and downplayed. And don’t get me started about him carrying his small child around his head like A HUMAN SHIELD. It’s disgusting.
He is a tech billionaire. Being in tech does not make you innately smarter or better at solving problems than anyone else and we all know money certainly doesn’t either. It doesn’t make him a god because he was able to buy a software company, oust the leaders, and erase their existence, legally, so he could call himself a founder. It doesn’t make him a genius to have opinions on where technology is evolving (and being dead wrong). Maybe he’s a decent engineer, I don’t know, but he is not even remotely qualified to handle a position like this because he can “move fast and break things.” That may work fine at a software company where breaking things result in needing to refund some customers and rework some code to make sure it’s stable again, but not for the government. There are so many dependencies on these programs that are not so obvious to someone who has never worked in government before. Programs that seem to be operating for a small population can still have an impact on hundreds of thousands of people should they be completely eliminated without a gradual plan or alternative. For instance, firing a slew of people who work at a nuclear plant, or accidentally revealing a CIA black site facility probably because “black” was in the name.
The economy is more unstable now than ever before due to these enormous cuts to spending, firing thousands upon thousands of people who are flooding the already abysmal job market, and our international counterparts being just so confused about what’s going on over here. The ridiculous tariffs don’t help, but it’s the perfect storm of imbecilic decisions that is pushing this country further and further away from anything recognizable of modern, progressive America. This is what people voted for, though. I do believe this instability was part of the deal and MAGAs didn’t mind until they started feeling the pressure of society breaking down and their lives being turned upside down just like the rest of us. And this is what I mean. These choices being made to ignore civility, decorum, and basic human rights are not happening in a vacuum. Their effects are sweeping and devastating. We don’t all live in little bubbles. There is no hiding from the inevitable collapse. Of what? I mean, the economy for sure, but it’s feeling more and more like war if ya ask me. Trump is one sentence, tariff, embargo, sanction from starting something he sure as hell won’t finish.
Okay, I better stop here before I start spiraling again. I had a whole paragraph about hopelessness. It’s probably for the best that particular little ray of sunshine was deleted. Listen, it’s bleak af out there, but people are protesting and burning teslas. People are taking to the streets and shouting for change. Boycotts are working and making companies second guess their bigoted policies. We are many and we won’t back down. That’s what I like to tell myself when I feel that doom spin starting. I gotta go to sleep. I can’t believe I wrote a whole new post, but it felt damn good. I’m still full of a million emotions, but it feels nice to get a bit of it out.
GOOD NIGHT!!!
