In the whole United States of America there is 1 - count it - ONE black woman who is in the running for the governor’s office. Her name is Stacey Abrams and she’s running for governor in the state of Georgia in what I have just learned is called a gubernatorial election, which might be the most disgusting word I’ve ever heard for any political activity.
If you’ve heard of worse, I would love to know.
Anyway, it’s just a testament to how unfair and imbalanced representation is in the government and why people feel abandoned by the very institution whose inherent purpose is to take in their considerations to make informed decisions for the betterment of us all. In reality, the system has been broken for centuries and built on inequality, so it’s actually not so surprising how severely it’s been failing. I am surprised it hasn’t happened sooner.
Now, we’re all fighting so vehemently to change who’s in Congress and to “take back” the country, but I’m not sure what we’re taking it back to? Instead, I think a lot of us are hoping to transform the country and right a lot of the wrongs like longstanding institutional racism, mass incarceration, and economic inequality.
Change is happening, but so slowly, and I can’t help but to feel things are going to get horrifically worse before getting better. Why you ask? Oh, I don’t know it might be because of the pipe bombs being mailed to political figures and famous Democrats. It might be because the awareness of police violence hasn’t deterred the consistent, constant police brutality. It might be because the president has absolutely no idea how the system works and has woefully ignored basic decorum and sense when it comes to diplomacy. It might be because the president has countlessly come to the defense and even venerated some of the most detestable leaders in our modern world.
Honestly, on top of that and this reporter being murdered by the Saudis, it seems like all of the ingredients for a world war, but what do I know…
I know I’ll be voting this November and just keep trying to stay sane.
