Apparently after airing their new commercial, Cheerios is having to ward off this hateful, ignorant backlash, even taking steps to disable the comments section on their Youtube page. However, I have been excited to report that I have not been able to find any of these vapid comments so immediately. Only after digging around and typing in specific Google searches have I had my eyeballs blasted by stupid statements.Though, it took me some time to even want to Google anything because for the past hour I have been trapped in the Reddit universe, reading hilarious opinions and sighing with relief that people have a sense of humor about the absurdity of the situation. Bigotry seems to be a popular topic for journalists, one of those subjects most people rally behind to seem more intelligent than their misinformed counterparts who are living in a world hopelessly detached, filled with unbridled prejudice. Those kinds of racists writing mean things on message boards or in comments sections are not the ones that scare me; systemic racism scares me. What scares me is the blatant absence of a major outcry to stop police brutality. There should be countless articles about how A FOURTEEN year old was manhandled by the police simply for playing with his friends on the beach. There should be a nationwide inquiry into the consistently unfair incarceration level of minorities, but that’s too heavy for America. The ridiculous response to a commercial over an interracial family is what draws attention. Ugh, wtf caresssss.

Anyway, reddit’s unapologetic thread of witticisms and conspiracy theories really made my morning. I’m sure there’s some racist trash in the comments somewhere, but it’s been buried underneath straight up shenanigans. Thank goodness.
