I don’t like getting into online debates about politics, but I am genuinely stunned by the amount of resistance to bombing Syria, not because it’s wrong to bomb people because why the hell is that even an option in this day and age of open communication and “civility.” People are saying we shouldn’t get involved because it’s none of our business. When I hear that all I can think of are hundreds of CHILDREN who have died in the Syrian attacks. Innocent CHILDREN. All I can think about are their families suffering from the loss or dead themselves. All I can think about are people dying. Then again genocide is constantly going on in various parts of the world raising the question, why don’t we feel the need to get involved on those occasions? When massive amounts of people are being executed for whatever reason, shouldn’t we all be upset? Shouldn’t the world be crying for everyone’s loss? Isn’t that enough grounds for action? Then I think, well if we don’t get involved in other country’s mass murders why get involved with any at all.
I read somewhere that the US is the only country “capable” of leveraging attacks of this magnitude, and that there should be some kind of responsibility for the welfare of the Syrian people on the hands of one of the world’s (dwindling) super powers. There is another argument (made by congress) that Syria is a threat to the US, but we all know that isn’t the case, but after those bombs are dropped best believe Assad ain’t gonna play that. Then what. Do we all just sit here and wait for the worst after pissing off a homicidal maniac that takes no heed of international guidelines or sanctions. Honestly, I have no idea how to feel about Obama/Congress’s decision. I do know I wish there were other actions to take that don’t involve killing ANYONE.
On one hand I do feel like there is some sort of humane responsibility to save people, but then again I don’t want said chemical warfare let loose on my backyard rooftop, which I believe is inevitable, but maybe I’m wrong. Maybe these attacks will sway Assad to turn over a new leaf and start handing out daisies instead of deadly fumes, but then again that’s what they are ATTACKS. Bloodshed for bloodshed. I don’t know. So, if anyone would like to enlighten me to their opinion it would be greatly appreciated. Until then, BRB. I’m off to troll the internet to find opinions that aren’t entirely constituted of either a passionate distaste for the Obama administration or completely devoid of merit due to a blind, borderline obsessive approval of it. Wish me luck.
