Skepticism has become nothing short than a necessity these last few years since electing the world’s most clueless and narcissistic modern leader into power. The public is constantly being fed lie after lie and it’s been up to the media to continuously call out the president and his administration of shrunken heads for misleading the public. Statements, policies, and weekly Twitter rants have to all be handled with deep scrutiny to catch any potentially illegal doings or illusions to violence.
It was with great anxiety and impatience the nation waited to hear the findings of the Mueller investigation only to be insulted with a statement from a very recently appointed AG and a modicum of the actual report released to the public. With great displeasure, the American people have been failed once again by a group of individuals who would rather maintain the blistering status quo than release a complete report that has been anticipated for months.
In the beginning of the presidency, I remember seeing people from other countries writing about how to pinpoint signs of authoritarianism and potential breaches of power. One of the key components of a leader who is looking to disrupt democracy is keeping their constituents in the dark and to operate ever so slightly outside of the law so as not to alert attention. Unfortunately, there have been a number of occasions where there has been overt corruption and discernible nefarious proposals and no one who can seems to have any desire of stopping this fascist disease from continuing to spread.
Accountability was a huge part of Obama’s tenure and although he did things that I didn’t agree with, he was called out on them, and his opposers criticized him (vehemently) when he did something they didn’t agree with, and they always had a platform and power to dismantle or repudiate his legislation. There is no such thing with this current president. Because Republicans have succumbed to the whim of an overgrown toddler, no amount of criticism can undermine the steadfast racist, homophobic, misogynistic policies consistently being churned out by this administration.
With the reality settling in that we may not get to see yet another vital document (never forget the tax returns) to understand the way this president operates, it becomes abundantly clear that the checks and balances system is failing miserably with each passing day. Unless the republicans grow some cojones, and stand up to a president that has turned the Republican party into a synonymous safe haven for white supremacy and bigotry, I’m not sure how we can fight this insurmountable force that has no intention of helping the average American citizen, but continues to demonstrate that money and power outweigh morals and humanitarianism. Case and point, the detestable Lindsay Graham, who was wined and dined into submission. Truly a blemish on American politics and a sad, immoral patsy. He can really just…
The media can only do so much when it comes to ousting the insanity of the White House, but we as citizens cannot be apathetic to the overt deterioration of our democracy. Democrats need to also grow a backbone in this fight and be MUCH more strategic about messaging and not be afraid of calling out racism when it’s undoubtedly exhibited by the president. The odds are with the Dems. One out of the 9837489234 candidates throwing their hat in the ring has to stick, right?
